Major VaLeta Parrish Merritt, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Major Meritt with her husband served in a variety of Salvation Army appointments in the USA and Chile from 1967 up to retirement in 2001. She earned her Bachelor of Religious Education Degree in 1959 from Southeastern Bible College, Birmingham, AL and was the Oklahoma City Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship from 1960-1964. She is survived by her husband, Major John G. Merritt, daughter, Becki Marrache; son, Paul Merrit, and his wife, Pirosa; grandchildren, Sean, Evan and Zachary Marrache, and Alex and Eva Merritt; brother, Rev. Archie B. Parrish and her sister, Zoya. Funeral services for Major Merritt will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday February 15, 2010 at the Salvation Army Evangeline Booth College, 1032 Metropolitan Parkway, S.W. Atlanta, GA 30312. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send gifts in her memory to the Atlanta Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
