Sam Leo Wohar

March 26, 1928 — May 2, 2010

Mr. Sam L. Wohar, 82, of Alpharetta, GA, died Sunday, May 2, 2010.  A memorial service will be held Friday, May 7th at 11:00 A. M. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur with Father William Deneke officiating.  Inurnment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons. Mr. Wohar was born in Corning, New York to George Wohar and Mary Coma Wohar. He served in the U.S. Army and then attended Georgia Tech on the GI Bill, graduating in 1952 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Lockheed before joining Player and Company in 1971, where he rose to become the chairman and CEO, retiring in 1998. Mr. Wohar was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Society of Engineers, the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau and the Atlanta Rotary Club.   He attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for almost 50 years, where he served on the Vestry as the Senior Warden. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Wohar; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bill Cardwell, Kellie Gravel, Janice and Alan Wingo; grandchildren, Stuart, Taylor and Wesley Cardwell, Gabrielle Gravel, Jenna and Eli Wingo, all of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Lilley of Advance, NC.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
