Sam Neville Macbean

November 19, 1934 — November 29, 2017

Sam Neville “Nev” MacBean was born on November 19, 1934 in Meridian, Mississippi, to loving parents, Caroline Neville and John P. MacBean. With Nev’s Dad in the Navy, the family moved around a bit, finally settling in West Palm Beach, Florida. Neville was his happiest growing up in WPB, living his life on and in the sea. After graduating from Palm Beach High School in 1953, Neville headed off to Sewanee, The University of the South for his freshman year. In his sophomore year, he transferred to Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Architecture. While at Auburn, Neville served as Secretary for his beloved fraternity, Sigma Chi.

Following college, Neville enlisted in the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard ship and serving out his six year duty in the Pacific and Japan – which he loved. Once stateside, Neville came to Atlanta and settled into a successful architectural career with the firm, Wise, Simpson, & Aiken. Many of Neville’s designs are seen today throughout Atlanta’s skyline. A favorite among his many designs is the twin high-rise on Clairmont Road in Decatur, formerly known as DeKalb Towers I & II, now part of Emory University.

Neville lived out his life in Decatur, Georgia, enjoying his love for gardening, the companionship of his many animals – Skippy, Cole, Toby, Lily – and the return trips to the sea. A voracious reader, he enjoyed golf, playing bridge, and possessed a terrific sense of humor.

Neville is survived by his wife and best friend of 33 years – his “bookend” – Eugenia Cook MacBean, and his precious canine companion, Beau. Neville is also survived by his beloved brother, Jack (John P. MacBean), of New York City. Together Jack and Nev created cherished memories traveling together in earlier years.

A member of the Cathedral of St. Philip, Neville lived a life of abundant faith, a life of honor and integrity.

―――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

Neville, thank you for your unceasing love and for the joy you brought into my life. Beau, Jack, and I are comforting one another in our sorrow, missing you terribly. We love you and thank you for enriching our lives. Until we are together again, sleep tight, my sweet Prince.

All our love,
Jean and Beau
