Sanford Billy (Bill) Pinyan

November 20, 1927 — April 19, 2011

Sanford Billy Pinyan (Bill), age 83, of Stone Mountain, GA passed away on April 19th, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Pauline Pinyan, sister Frances Cobb, and brother Don Pinyan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Burns Pinyan, daughters Leslie Pinyan and Ann Pinyan, daughter-in-law Dara Reynolds and her son Michael Reynolds, grandchild Julian Pinyan, sisters and brother-in-law Chris Livingstone and Annette and John Lanier, along with several nieces and nephews. Bill was born November 20th, 1927 in Atlanta. Growing up in Buckhead, he attended North Fulton High School then attended UGA, and later served with the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return, he earned his law degree from Woodrow Wilson Law School. After joining Philips Petroleum Company, Bill and family lived in Gadsden and Birmingham, AL, and Savannah, GA. Bill retired after 30 years of service and formed his own petroleum business. Because of his love of the water, he and his wife moved to Lake Hartwell in 1994 and enjoyed twelve years of boating, fishing, and hunting. Bill was a true advocate of nature and the great outdoors. In 2006, Bill and Beverly moved to Park Springs Retirement Community in Stone Mountain where they have enjoyed living for six years. He was active in many churches through the years, and, most recently was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, GA on Friday, April 22nd at 11am, with reception in the fellowship hall following the service. Dr. Robert Browning and Dr Truett Gannon will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
