Sara Elizabeth "Betty" Thompson Worley

September 12, 1930 — May 8, 2017

Betty Thompson Worley, a lifelong resident of Decatur, Ga. passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday 5/8/2017. She was 86 years old.

Betty was born at Georgia Baptist Hospital on September 12, 1930 to John and Nancie Thompson of Decatur, Ga. Betty had an older brother Bobby and a younger sister Jane. Their family lived in several houses that were built by her father, and they attended Decatur Presbyterian Church. Betty graduated from Decatur Girls High School, and went on to attend The University of Georgia Atlanta Division (presently, Georgia State University) at night while working full time. She was an office manager for seven years.

Betty married George Worley in 1951 and was blessed with two children, son Larry George and daughter Lynde Su Worley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobby, and her daughter Lynde.

Betty was a beautiful and fun loving woman. Many family gatherings were hosted at her home, and many memories were made there with her. She loved her family, her friends, the Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. You could often find her on a Saturday in the fall decked out in red and black cheering for her team. She loved to dance, and she lived her life on her terms. She adored visits from her son, family, and friends. It gave her great happiness to know her great-grand daughter, Marlee, and she was over joyed by the arrival of her new great-grandson, Jameson.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Larry & Jennifer Worley, her grandchildren, Roger Worley, Heather & her husband Chris Decker and her two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Jameson. Also survived by her sister, Jane Singleton; her niece, Joy & her husband, Stephen Hughes and their children and nephew, Todd Singleton. She will be truly missed, and we all hope to honor her memory and to continue to make her proud.

“Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty. They merely move it from their faces into their hearts.”
