Sara H. Smathers

Sara H. Smathers, 78, of Decatur died on Saturday, March 3, 2007 after a brief illness with pneumonia.  She was born on February 17, 1929 in Greer, SC.  She attended Catholic schools in Asheville, NC and Berea College in Kentucky. Sara met Richard C. Smathers in Asheville, where they married on March 12, 1949.  She was an avid bridge player and an active member at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Smathers and son R. Lee Smathers.  She is survived by her sons, Rhett J. Smathers, Dan C. Smathers, Ray A. Smathers; daughter-in-law, Beth M. Smathers; son, Ned P. Smathers; daughter-in-law, Melissa H. Smathers; grandchildren, Sara J. Smathers, Lauren E. Smathers, Christina M. Smathers, Weston H. Ford, Lee M. Smathers; and many friends from the Azalea Circle Garden Club, Clairmont Place and her church.  The funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the church parlor. Interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens on Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, GA will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur or the American Lung Association.  A.
