Sara Wagner Adkerson, 85 went to her heavenly reward on Monday, April 18. She was a devout Christian and a devoted, loving wife for nearly 62 years. Sara was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and friends will deeply miss her sweet presence. She was also committed to her church and her community. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Harry Wagner and Julia Speaks Wagner and her great-grandson, Warren Stone. Mrs. Adkerson is survived by her husband, Rev. John C. Adkerson, and her four daughters: Sharon Johnson, Ann Harper, Sue Buky and Lynne Warren and their spouses, grandchildren: Angela Johnson, Ashley Gallaher, Lance Buky, Chad Buky, David Harper, III, Daniel Harper, Lauren Clemmer, Mary Elizabeth Stone, William Warren, V, and Coleman Warren; great-grandchildren: Lydia Gallaher, Tyler Buky, Will Harper, Campbell Harper, Gavin Harper, Caleb Harper, Hobie Clemmer, John Stone. John and Sara met in Richmond, Va. while she was in route to join a mission team to serve in a coal-mining town in southwest Virginia. She gave John a Gospel tract and shared her Christian faith. He was convinced that he wanted to become a Christian after their encounter and someday marry this very special lady. They were married in 1949. Mrs. Adkerson received her B.S. degree from Mary Washington of the University of Virginia and taught school in Arlington, VA, Greenville, SC and Atlanta, GA. She studied at Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC and taught college students at a local church. She also taught at Washington Bible College in Washington, D.C. A member of First Baptist Church Atlanta, she was on the prayer ministry team. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 am in the chapel of A. S Turner & Sons with Dr. Scott Downing officiating. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday, April 22, 6:00- 8:00 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA. A private interment will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to fund the ministry of the "Sara Adkerson Prayer Room" located within the Good Samaritan Health Center, 1015 Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta, 30318 www.goodsamatlanta. org
