Mrs. Sarah Estelle Smith Austin of Duluth died Friday, December 2, 2005. She maintained a 100 average from the first grade through high school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Sarah Austin was a graduate of Agnes Scott College. She was the first war bride to receive permission to fly overseas from the Department of Army to be married in 1947 by the Mayor of Stuttgart in Germany to young regular Army Officer Austin. She was also a classical Pianist. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her son, Walter Thomas (Tom) Austin, III. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter T. Austin; daughter, Ilah Marie Austin Ward of Duluth; grandson, L. Edward Ward, IV; brother, Joseph Harold Smith and his wife Martha of Buford; two aunts, Agnes Smith Birts, and Vera Smith Hubbard, both of DeKalb County. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Dr. J. Don Aderhold will officiate. Interment will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sarah Austin to the Multiple Myloma Fund at Fidelity National Banks, all 19 locations. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
