Shannon Elizabeth Brown of Lawrenceville, GA lost her battle against the chronic disease of alcoholism on July 31, 2023. Shannon was born on May 1, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Kathy Ginn Brown Colbenson and to Clois (Claudie) Wayne Brown. Shannon spent her childhood in Snellville, Lilburn and Lawrenceville, Georgia where she excelled in academics and in every sport she played. She graduated from Berkmar High School in 1995 where she was a star Basketball player and high jumper. She was on the Georgia Tech Women's Basketball team until a second ACL tear right before her freshman season began ended her ability to compete in basketball and other sports.
Shannon was a joy to be around. She was smart, reliable, and multi-talented with a wide variety of interests and abilities. Shannon's quick wit and great sense of humor simply made her fun. She had a way of connecting with others so that each person felt loved and accepted. She was observant, respectful and kind. Shannon's thoughtful and insightful instincts frequently led her to connect with people in need. Her patience, honesty, resourcefulness and humor enabled her to connect with everyone, including those who felt misunderstood. Shannon was sensitive and understood suffering. And, she was always ready to reach out and go the extra mile to help someone else. Shannon was well-loved by her co-workers, friends and family and will be profoundly missed.
Shannon was pre-deceased by her step-mother, Janis Brown, and her step-father, Pete Colbenson. She is survived by her mother, her father, her step-sister, Amanda Colbenson, and her aunts, uncles and cousin. Services will take place on August 12, 2023, at 11AM at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Shannon to CHRIS 180's substance use programs. It has always been her desire to help others.
