Shirley Bowen Taylor, age 80, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away September 25, 2017 after a brief illness.
She was born in Atlanta, GA on December 26, 1936 to Arthur and Edith Bowen. She graduated from West Fulton High School. Shortly after graduation, she met and married the one and only love of her life, Ira Taylor. They are survived by 4 adoring children and their spouses, Andrea Johnson, Alan Taylor (Janet), Ginna Taylor Brody (Jay), and Robert (fiancée' Lori). Shirley had 5 grandchildren who brought her much joy and laughter, Katie Mayeux (Chad), Alex Johnson, William Taylor, Taylor Ann Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Leah Brody.
Her life was truly complete with the arrival of her beloved great granddaughters. Nola Mayeux, Calla Mayeux, Scarlett Johnson, and Lilyana Neal. Shirley is also survived by her sister Barbara Hicks, sister in law Pam Taylor, Cousins David and Norma Taylor, numerous nieces and nephews and special and devoted lifelong friends, Regina Sandford, Jeanne and Jim Abbott.
Shirley loved to travel, play bridge and she was a lifetime member of Beau Rivage.
Ira preceded her in death November 2016 and they are together again at last. Their love story and marriage of almost 61 years was unmatched.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
