Shirley Jean Buffington

Shirley Jean Buffington (Gaines) of Tucker, Ga went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2018. Jean was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Decatur High School. Jean dedicated 25 years of service to the Emory Hospital Echo-Cardiology Lab as a secretary. Jean was a Godly woman and a member of Briarlake Baptist Church for her entire adult life. She was a sensational cook and spent many hours in the kitchen preparing meals for her large family; hosting dinners each Sunday afternoon. She was known for her delicious pound cake and country fried steak. Jean looked forward to the Winter of each year spending time in front of her fireplace watching movies. Jean was a nurturing soul, always caring for others before she cared for herself. You could always find her sharing her passions through teaching her children and grandchildren to cook, sew and play piano. Jean is preceded in death by her parents Louise and Thomas Gaines and her son, Steve Buffington. She is survived by her husband, Leonard Buffington of Tucker, Ga, her children MaryLynn Berlin of Smyrna, Ga, Stan Buffington of Tucker, Ga, Laurie (Jeremy) Conlon of Tucker, Ga, and Libby (Bob) Carroll of Lilburn, Ga and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ashley (Dustin, Emery, and Mack) Skidmore of Tucker, Ga, Christie (Ben, Kinsleigh, and Ellie) Maloch of Tucker, Ga, and Nicholas Berlin of Smyrna, Ga. Private services with be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jean’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Rheumatoid Arthirtis Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
