Shirley Moak, 88, passed away on July 13, 2024, after succumbing to colon cancer.
She was born on January 28, 1936 in Houston, Texas, to Cecil and Pauline Putman.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her son Bradley Moak, her brother Ken Putman, and her sister Sandra Bryant. She is survived by her daughters, Shelly Moak, Melissa McArthur (Tracy) and her grandchildren: Kailyn, Ryan and Hayden McArthur.
Shirley Putman grew up in Houston, Texas and attended Regan High School through her Junior year. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado, where she would complete her senior year and meet her future husband, William Moak. After many moves, the family settled in Florida where Shirley remained until 1994.
She was very good with numbers and extremely detail-oriented. This served her well in her first job as a bank teller and later in life after completing an undergraduate degree in Business and working as a Fiscal Operations Manager for the Jewish Federation of Orlando and then San Diego. Upon retiring at the age of 70, Shirley journeyed back to the East Coast to Decatur, Georgia to help raise her three grandchildren.
Shirley was best known for her love of books and extensive volunteer work. She also loved to travel and spend time outdoors hiking to waterfalls and visiting National Parks. After moving to Decatur, she found a wonderful friend group at her weekly senior exercise class at the Decatur Rec Center.
The service for Ms. Shirley Moak will be held on Saturday, July 27th at 3:00 PM at AS Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory in Decatur, GA.
A reception will follow at the McArthur home.
