Stella Demos Vaughn

March 16, 1948 — December 31, 2016

Mrs. Stella Demos Vaughn passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, December 31, 2016. Stella loved people and never met a stranger. She was the matriarch of a "Big Fat Greek Family," the best "Yia yia," and was adored by her grandchildren. Stella will be missed terribly, forever loved, and never forgotten by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Stephen Vaughn and her daughters: Eve Williams (Scott) and Litsa Vastakis (Frank); step-daughters: Sheryl Vaughn and Janet Jones (Ken); grandchildren: Nicholas and Alexander Vastakis, Ava and Jackson Williams, Marque Vaughn-Lindsey, Talis Basham, and Alexander Jones; her mother, Carmen Demos; brother, Nick Demos; sister, Eustia Peace (Steve); brother-in-law, Chuck Vaughn; niece, Helena Peace; goddaughter, Britton Wren; and many cousins she loved dearly throughout her life. Stella was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Demos, and her brother, George Demos.
Stella was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1948 where she attended H.O. Burgess Elementary School. She graduated from East Atlanta High School "Class of 1966" where she was a majorette and the 1966 Homecoming Queen. While in college, she was also a majorette at Georgia Tech and graduated from Georgia State University in 1970 with a BS in Chemistry. Her professional accomplishments included forty years as a corporate accounts sales consultant in the chemical industry, twenty years of which were with CA Specialties, Ltd. In 2005, she became a realtor at Keller Williams Chattahoochee North. Stella was a member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and the Northeast Atlanta Metro Association of Realtors. Stella was a faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church and loved her Greek heritage and community tremendously. She was the treasurer of the Laconian Society and a founding member of Parea. Over the years, she was the coordinator for the East Atlanta Wild Cats "Class of 1966" Annual BBQ. Stella continued the dancing she loved throughout her life. She was an active member of The Paris Dancers, a tap, jazz, and ballroom dance group that entertained in various venues both locally and out of state. Stella was passionate about animals and worked tirelessly to raise funds for supporting pet rescue shelters. Stella's beautiful smile, enormous personality, selfless generosity, and boisterous laugh touched the lives of all who knew her. She will forever remain "mom, yiayia, Big Stella, and Ms. East Atlanta" to the abundant family and friends she loved immensely and who will forever keep her in their hearts. May Her Memory Be Eternal!
