Stephen Henry Harrington was born on March 15, 1926 in Akron, Ohio. He moved to Decatur, GA as a young boy and resided in his childhood home until his death on June 4, 2013. He graduated from Druid Hills High School in 1943. He served in the Army during World War II and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal and 2 Bronze Stars for his service. Once he was home from the war and recovered from his injuries, he attended the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1954. He joined his father and brother in the business of Harrington Construction Co. They built over 500 homes in the Medlock Park neighborhood and surrounding area. He donated land to DeKalb County for use as a youth athletic field, which was later renamed Medlock Park. This land still serves that purpose and is enjoyed by the hundreds of young athletes today. Steve was an avid gardener and supplied his family and friends with fresh, homegrown vegetables every summer. He spent many hours with his nephews and other neighborhood boys building and repairing go carts, mini bikes, and automobiles. He was always willing to lend a hand or a tool to get the boys back on the road. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Stephen Harrington, and his mother, Louise Schoel Harrington. He is survived by his brother, Daniel Schoel Harrington, sister-in law, Daisy Joiner Harrington, nephews Daniel Joiner Harrington, John Stephen Harrington, and James Joseph Harrington, ( Clara), great nephews Derek Harrington (Brittany), Candler Schoel Harrington, John Daniel Harrington and great niece Gayle Rene Scott (Will) and great-great nieces Wendy Rene Scott, Theresa Gayle Scott and great-great nephew John Robert Harrington.
