Steven Buckley Wooters 1943-2020
Steven Buckley Wooters died in Atlanta February 23, 2020. He was born in Richmond, Virginia June 14, 1943 to Eva McKown Pitzer and Percival Clyde Wooters. Theirs was a life in the U S Army, living in South Korea before the Korean War and in cities all over this country, moving often. The family settled in Martinsburg West Virginia and all of his high school years were there.
He served seven years in the U S Air Force during which time he learned and taught electronics and worked on a microwave communication site in Germany for four of those years. His career with Delta Air Lines and associated companies was from 1968 to 2001 and evolved from his background in electronics.
In retirement Woo, as he was known in some circles, was happiest working with his hands or reminiscing with friends and family about his early life as a curious “red headed troll”, the life around extended family in his teens, traveling the Delta system maintaining equipment in airports and reservation centers, moving to office life as a computer programmer in 1976, and then assembling and installing PCs for the mainframe programmers when PCs were introduced.
Those who love him, and they are many, will remember his astounding recall of people and events, his ability to identify almost any car including year, his knowledge and love of trains (model and historic) and his determination to live with, not die of Multiple Myeloma.
He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Martha McKown Wooters Tyler and Pamela Chalkley Wooters Alexander and his first wife Veronica Chisnell Wooters. He is survived by his wife Helen Adelle Dennis, his sister Nancy Northern Wooters Vincent and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial service will be Saturday March 7 at 4pm at A S Turner and Sons, 2773 N Decatur Rd, Decatur GA with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, 5775 Glenridge Dr, Bldg B Suite 370, Atlanta GA 30328 or the Atlanta Community Food Bank, 732 Joseph E.
