Sue Browning, President of Atlanta Lightning Protection, Inc., died at her home in Atlanta on Thursday, April 22, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Browning was born in Rexburg, Idaho on September 15, 1952 to Laurence Flamm Browning and Dorothy Virgin Browning. She was raised in Pocatello, Idaho where she graduated from Pocatello High School in 1970. Sue’s favorite quote was, “As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it.” She lived by this principal in her career and her personal life. Sue joined the U. S. Air Force in 1971, where she worked in air traffic control. She also toured with the U. S. Air Force Women’s Volleyball Team during her enlistment. She rose to the rank of Sergeant before her Honorable Discharge in 1975. She continued her education at Idaho State University in 1976 and 1977 after receiving an athletic scholarship from the Women’s Volleyball Team. In 1978, Sue moved to Atlanta, where she worked as an electrical estimator for 19 years. In 1997, she opened Atlanta Lightning Protection, Inc. She was a member of the Lightning Protection Institute and the United Lightning Protection Association. As a member of AA for more than three decades, she touched lives and helped many people on the path to recovery as a sponsor and a mentor. Sue loved all animals. She was dedicated to her dogs, Duke, Trusty, and Surely, and her cat Lucy Toonces. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy V. Browning; three sisters, Judith (Paul) Swann, Linda Hall, and Carol Lynn (Richard) Chase; one brother, Wylie (Joyce) Browning; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 1st in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home at 2773 North Decatur Road in Decatur.
