Susan Eleanor Lane

September 28, 2010 — September 25, 2010

Mrs. Susan Williams Lane of Stone Mountain passed away September 25, 2010 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Sue's family and friends are saddened by their loss, but are lifted by Sue's spirit. She fought her battle with cancer with complete grace and dignity, the same qualities she exhibited through-out her life. Sue was a native Atlantan, born September 11, 1937. She graduated from Murphy High School and attended Stephens College. As a native, she was involved in many activities around Atlanta. She served on the board of the Callanwalde Guild and was Treasurer for the Christmas at Callanwalde event for many years, was a Governor's Mansion Hostess, former editor of her community newspaper, the Smoke Signal, and was an instructor at the Atlanta Sewing Center where she shared her amazing em-broidery and sewing talents with others. Her special handmade gifts are cherished by friends and family, especially her grandchildren. In addition, she and her husband of fifty-four years, Jack, are charter members of Smoke Rise Baptist Church, where they belong to the Seekers Sunday school class. Sue was instrumental in the establishment of the nursery program at Smoke Rise. Sue and Jack are accomplished dancers, including square, round and choreographed ballroom dancing. Over the past twenty years, they've traveled the world enjoying dancing and fellowship. Sue cherished her family and many friend-ships, especially her Lunch Bunch, and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors, in addition to her husband Jack D Lane, Jr., are her daughters Lori Lane Kircher, Lilburn; Danna Lane Sanders, Duluth; Terri Lane Henry, Marietta; sons in law Michael R. Sanders, John D. Henry, Jr., grandchildren Stephanie Lane Sanders, Katherine Elizabeth Kircher, Robert Steven Sanders, Christine Margaret Henry, Caroline Susan Sanders, Rebecca Lane Henry and John (Jack) Dunklin Henry, III; brothers Virgil R. Williams, James M. Williams, Jr.; mother-in-law Margaret Price Lane; sisters-in-law Janette Lane Gilliam, Sara Davis Williams, Barbara Covington Williams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Deca-tur. Funeral services officiated by Dr. Robert Browning and Dr. Truett Gannon, will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Smoke Rise Baptist Church. A fellowship lunch will be held immediately following the ser-vice. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with a procession leaving the church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smoke Rise Baptist Church in memory of Susan W. Lane. A. S.
