Sybil Rogers Herren

June 30, 1914 — November 27, 2009

Sybil Rogers Herren, age 96, died Friday, November 27, 2009 from complications following a fall. Sybil, daughter of Henry S. and Sybil Scott Rogers, was born June 30, 1913 in Decatur, Georgia. She graduated in 1932 from Decatur Girls High and attended Agnes Scott College. She married Julius Edward Herren, Sr. in 1935. Married 52 years, Sybil was a devoted wife and mother. After living all over the United States, Sybil and Julius retired to Decatur in 1978. Sybil returned to Decatur First United Methodist Church which she had joined in 1923.  Sybil was a charter a member of the Paty Class and a member of the UMW.  She was also a member of the DAR and the UDC. Sybil was the matriarch of her family, loved by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She had a full social life and many life-long friends. Sybil is survived by two sons, Julius Edward Herren, Jr. and wife Terri of Greenville, South Carolina and William Albert Herren and wife Rita of Braselton, Georgia, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Edward Herren, Sr.; two brothers, Henry S. Rogers, Jr. and John Wesley Rogers; and two sisters, Vera Rogers and Virginia Rogers Collins. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at A.S. Turner Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Decatur First United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Decatur First United Methodist Church for the Chapel Renovation Fund. A. S. Turner & Sons
