Mrs. Sybil Winifred Biscombe Crawford was born in Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown Guyana on
Thursday October 22 nd , 1931. She was the only daughter of William Biscombe and the third child of
Eldica Connell. Sybil later attended and graduated from Carnegie School of Home Economics, which
provided her with the skill sets to supervise and manage her home in later years.
On Saturday October 28, 1950 Sybil married a very handsome man named Eric Alwyn Crawford after
which she was a housewife and they bore 8 children: Esme Angela Hamer, Michael Gordon Crawford,
Steven Anthony Crawford, Jennifer Ann Hartley, Pauline Veronica Crawford, Derek Nigel Crawford,
Joan Elizabeth Braithwaite and Michelle Andrea Morgan. She was predeceased by her husband, eldest
son Micheal and grandson, Hewley Hartley.
Sybil was baptized and became a devoted member of the Assembly of God Church in Newtown where
she served God in many capacities in the church. She was part of the prayer warriors that would visit
the sick and shut in, be a comfort to families that lost their loved ones by holding prayer meetings and
singing gospel songs all in the hopes of bringing them peace.
Sybil migrated to the United States in 1981 to NY where she became certified and worked as a home
health aide. She had a nurturing skill set that allowed her to excel in this role as well as at home
where she ran a large household efficiently and at times she would delegate responsibilities in order
to provide the care that her family came to expect. Sybil had a love for reading, knitting and sewing
and in later years as she attended the senior center she created quilts, ceramics and other arts and
crafts that were so good they were gifted and sold in the center’s shop. Sybil had a green thumb and
her plants benefited greatly and she had a great love of playing dominoes and bingo which she often
was pronounced the winner.
Sybil was a minister for God in her own way and she kept his word in her word and deed, deeply
connected to him in her heart and shared it with anyone she could from the time she accepted him.
She would encourage fellowship with God, reading his word and most Christmas gifts included an
angel calendar, daily word pamphlets and something that would encourage a relationship with God.
Because she was a faithful servant we know she is resting comfortably with him now and as much as
we loved her God loved her more.
Sybil is survived by her loving family who include 7 of her 8 children, her elder sister Sheila Josiah ,
16 of her 17 grandchildren Ulric Hamer, Akilah Hamer, Jevon Crawford, Seon Crawford , Shavin
Crawford, Stacy Grant, Steven Crawford Jr., Hanson Hartley, Tisha Crawford, Janel Roberts, Aiesha
Crawford, Jamila Colbert, Jabari Braithwaite, Arielle Pedmour, Danielle Pedmour and Gabrielle
Pedmour, 19 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and many friends.
