Sylvia Jordan Hunt, 89, passed away peacefully April 28, 2020 while trying to recover from a fall. Born at the former Georgia Baptist Hospital in downtown Atlanta, Sylvia inherited her strong independent streak from her parents, Robert and Lena Jordan. Growing up in Sylvan Hills as their only child, Sylvia attended Girls High and graduated from Brown High. She met her future husband, Homer McArthur Hunt, as they both rode the bus to attend the University of Georgia - now Georgia State University. Sylvia was a lifelong member of Sylvan Hills Baptist Church, transferring her membership to Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church when her first church disbanded.
Sylvia and Homer enjoyed living in Sylvan Hills during their marriage of 57 years. They raised two daughters, Brenda Hunt Borden (Bill) and Janet Leigh Hunt Benise (Steve). Sylvia has one grandson, Jordan Lolley (Elizabeth) of Cincinnati and one great-granddaughter born this year, Annalise Catherine.
Sylvia and Homer enjoyed traveling the world in their later years - exploring every continent except Australia. The independent streak mentioned earlier came into play after Homer’s death in 2008, as Sylvia continued traveling by herself on several cruises. She also rode a camel in Egypt, won money in Vegas, attended Easter Mass in Brazil and waded in the Jordan River. Family Feud was her favorite and she was in Steve Harvey’s live studio audience many times. She loved Price is Right, the beach, Captain D’s and her family. Known by most as “feisty” and one of a kind, she will be missed very much.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when the COVID restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, and since Sylvia loved animals, donations made be made in her memory to Mostly Mutts, 3238 Cherokee Street, Kennesaw, Ga 30144 or via their web site https://www.mostlymutts.org/
