Tamara Makdad Albrecht, age 59, passed away on Tuesday July 15, 2014 in Decatur, Georgia. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 28, 1955, to the late Ameene and Louise Makdad, she quickly demonstrated huge musical talent, already playing for church at age 13 in her hometown of Greensburg, PA. Tamara earned undergraduate music degrees at Wittenberg University, a master's in organ performance at Northwestern University and a doctorate in worship studies from the Webber Institute for Worship Studies. A committed Christian, she served several Atlanta churches as organist/choirmaster, including Emory University Worship and most recently at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. An instructor in Emory's Music Department, she was a beloved faculty member. Her greatest love was for her daughter Esther and husband Timothy. Survivors include sister Anisa Benson, of Greensburg, PA; daughter Esther Albrecht, of Ithaca, NY; and husband Timothy Albrecht, of Decatur, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tamara's memory to the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory Healthcare, Atlanta, GA. Her memorial services will be at 2 PM on Friday, July 18, at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
