Terry Lewis Skinner, 72, passed away on January 29, 2025. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Dave & Leaver Skinner, long-time residents of Avondale Estates. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by brothers Dave Skinner, Jr. (Linda) and Steve Skinner (Sandy), cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and longtime friends Tim Oliver and Jamie Davis.
Terry was a proud Georgia Tech graduate in Industrial Design and a Beta Theta Pi brother along with his brother Steve. Terry was innovative and artistic (a skill inherited from his mother) and started TLS Designs soon after graduation. He designed and built trade show exhibits for corporate giants like Coca Cola in the days before computers and 3D printers. He worked as a limousine driver between corporate gigs and drove around the likes of Dolly Parton, Susan Anton, and Dixie Carter. He later did continuity and stage design on television sets with Elizabeth Montgomery and movie sets for Fled (Lawrence Fishburne), The Black Widow Murders, and Remember the Titans, to name a few; and when an extra was needed, Terry was always happy to oblige.
Terry was an ardent supporter and volunteer for Project Open Hand through his lifelong friend and Project Open Hand founder, Stephen Woods. He loved Perry Mason, traveled to numerous antique car shows (but liked the one in Avondale Estates the best), took drama classes at Emory's continuing education program, and had a vast collection of his late mother's artwork which he displayed in his home.
Terry loved the many furry 'kids' he had over the years, including Boo Dog, Biff, Fido, Lucy, Bella, Gray Cat, Slinky, Bumpy, Chester, Minnie, White Dog, Wednesday and Alex. If you wish to make a donation in Terry's memory, you couldn't do better than the Atlanta Humane Society.
The service for Terry Skinner will be held at the chapel of A.S.Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033 on Terry's birthday, Monday, February 3, at 1 PM, with his nephew Rev. Chris Skinner officiating. Visitation will be held at Turner's from 11AM to 1 PM.
