Theo Donald Embry

Theo Donald Embry, age 79, of Chamblee, GA, died Friday Aug. 19th, 2011. He was born March 15th, 1932 to G.W. and Lorena Sanders Embry in Good Hope, GA. He graduated from Morgan County High School and Georgia State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was involved in the early missile program at Cape Canaveral. He started out working as an office manager for his brothers Jack, Jim, and Neal at Embry Realty. He later became a realtor, builder and developer. Theo was an entrepreneur, enjoying the thrill of staring up new businesses including a McDonald’s franchise. He also was a mentor to several young people who worked for him. As a young man, Theo was active in the DeKalb County Jaycees and held several offices before being elected to serve as a National Director. He was coordinator for the Young Democrats for Jimmy Carter when he ran for Governor of GA. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Barbara Rabun Embry; children Robin and Suzanne Embry, Kelly and Jenny Embry, Jay W. Embry; grandchildren Katie Ellen Embry and Sean Patrick Connolly; sisters-in-law Marlene Embry, Marjorie Embry, Barbara C. Rabun; also several nieces and nephews, a special cousin who was like a daughter, Susan A. White of Braselton and many other treasured family members. Viewing will be Aug. 22, 2011 from 6 PM – 9 PM at A.S. Turner and Sons. 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. Memorial Service will be Aug. 23, 2011 at 11 AM at Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Rd., Chamblee, GA.
