Thomas Bennett

Thomas Conway Bennett, Jr. entered this world on June 16, 1956 at Atlanta's Georgia Baptist Hospital. The only son of Thomas Conway Bennett and Margaret Bates Bennett and younger brother of Lee Bennett Wright, he joined a large and boisterous extended family on both sides with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He grew up in East Atlanta and graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School in 1974. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Emory University in 1978. He went to work in nursing at Grady and Emory Hospitals before pivoting to Cigna Health in the mid 1980's. After a brief retirement he resumed his work in the healthcare fields working for the Georgia Medical Care Foundation and Alliant Health Solutions until his retirement in 2019.

Passionate about travel, music and art, Tommy could be found planning his next trip or filling his home with beautiful images. He volunteered with Open Hand Atlanta. He is survived by his loving husband, Daniel Oberg and two step-sons, Grant Oberg and Max Metztger of Boston, MA.. He is also survived by his sister Lee Bennett Wright of Athens, nieces Wendy (Gary) Risse of Laramie, Wyoming, Shelby (Ron) Whitlock of Decatur. His is proceeded in death by his parents Thomas and Margaret Bennett and his brother-in-law Bill Wright.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, March 22nd, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1 pm and the memorial service will begin at 2 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home Chapel at In lieu of flowers please donate to Open Hand Atlanta. After the service there will be a celebration of life at Tommy and Dan's house.
