Thomas Charles Ruska, aged 74, of Druid Hills, Atlanta passed away at home September 1, 2022. He was born August 28, 1948 in New Brunswick, NJ, son of the late Andrew and Mildred Ruska. After graduation from the University of Georgia, Tom spent most of his adult life in Georgia working in various jobs in finance, culminating in more than thirty years at Geographics Inc of Atlanta where he retired as Chief Financial Officer in 2014.
He married Grace Chapin in 1986. He is survived by his wife and two children: Tracy Ruska, a Nurse Practitioner of Decatur, Georgia and Clarke Ruska, a Captain in the US Army of Clarksville, Tennessee and his wife Reagan.
Tom was an extremely talented and avid carpenter and master of home building and improvements. As a newlywed he installed a new and expanded kitchen and put a new roof on his and Grace’s home and then raised it to add an additional floor. He built a second home at Lake Lanier from foundation to rooftop with two major additions over time, relying only on help from an electrician so as not to jeopardize all his other craftsmanship.
A devoted family man, he relished writing an annual family newsletter at the holiday season regaling all with tales from family travel. His enthusiasm and pride in the milestones and accomplishments of his wife and children came out in funny anecdotes. His humor and storytelling will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta on Friday, September 9 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to: Habitat for Humanity or J.M. Tull School of Accounting at University of Georgia.
