Thomas Edwin Yancey

Thomas Edwin Yancey, 79, of Tucker, GA passed away March 31, 2015. He was born in Memphis, TN on November 8, 1935 to Watson William Yancey and Mary Sue Yancey and grew up in Helena, Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas State University in 1957 and Rutgers University Graduate School of Banking in l971. He was employed for 34 years with SunTrust Bank as a Senior Vice President retiring on November 1, 1995. He proudly served his country serving in the Arkansas National Guard from 1953 until l957 obtaining the rank of Sergeant and as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army from 1957 until 1959. His accomplishments included Past President of the Druid Hills Lions Club, Past Treasurer and member of the Executive Board of Directors of Peach Bowl, Inc. He was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church and Past President of the Progressive Men's Bible Class. Surviving are his wife of 28 years Marilyn M. Yancey and children, James Kevin Yancey and Susan Elizabeth (Beth) Weltlich and her husband Mark. Also surviving are his stepchildren Michael Thigpen, Chris Thigpen and his wife Suzzane , Scott Thigpen and his wife Jessica and eleven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Briarlake Baptist Church with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Briarlake Baptist Church Building Fund. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
