On Friday, May 28, 2021, Thomas Allen Gibbs, loving husband and father, died at the age of 58.
Tom was born on July 11, 1962 in Dallas, Texas; later moving to Atlanta. Tom was the son of the late
Laura Mae Allen and the late Freddie William Gibbs, both of Dallas, TX. He was married to Alison Smith
Gibbs and they raised two sons, Jackson and James.
Tom spent his entire career in the plumbing industry, beginning at Apex Supply Company and, for the last 15 years, at Southern Pipe and Supply Company. He was recognized as an outstanding individual and salesman.
He had a passion for nature and the outdoors. Tom loved landscaping his yard, identifying local birds,
camping and backpacking. He was very involved in Scouting with his children and enjoyed multiple high-
adventure trips, including a trek at Philmont. He guided both of his boys to become Eagle Scouts. His
leadership in Scouting influenced many young men.
His friends and family knew him to be a man of exceptional character who always held himself to the
highest standards. He was always willing to help a friend and could fix or repair anything. He never met
a stranger and enjoyed talking with the people he met. Tom loved watching horror movies, playing
trivia games, riding roller coasters, and was an avid football fan.
He died on a backpacking trip, doing what he loved. Tom continued giving through organ donation, helping others live long and fulfilling lives. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Alison Smith Gibbs; sons, Jackson Gibbs and James Gibbs; beloved aunt and second mother, Martha Holland; brother, Henry (Hank) Hillin; sisters, Sally Hillin and Polly Gibbs; as well as a large extended family. He will be truly missed.
