Thomas (Haskell) Rodgers was born on January 27, 1927 and left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 28, 2008. After a month long battle with kidney failure and breathing problems, Tom was ready for his heavenly travels. After working with his dad in construction and serving his country in the Navy, Tom began a long career in the insurance industry. He got to see a lot of the United States while serving as a General Adjuster for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company for 27 years. After he "retired" he began a golf club repair and custom club making business at Sugar Creek Golf Course in Atlanta. Tom had a passion for the game of golf and played every chance he got. For several years in the late 90's and early 2000's, he also ran the DeKalb Seniors Golf Association for the DeKalb County Parks and Recreation Dept. Tom also loved to square dance and country music. He helped start several square dance clubs, served as President of several clubs and helped get numerous people started in square dancing. He and his wife, Terrie, traveled the U.S. as well as abroad with square dancing activities. Travel was a big part of Tom and Terrie's life together and multiple cruises were taken, many "road trips" and the very special trip to the Holy Land in 1998. Tom is survived by his wife, Terrie, two sons, Jay (Janet) of Winder and Marc (Suzanne) of Tucker as well as 4 beautiful granddaughters, Ashley, Madison, Rayna and Chloe (Tom loved his family but his granddaughter's really lit up his eyes when they came to visit); daughter, Teresa Banks of Sterling, Virginia, two brothers, Jack (Retha) Rodgers of Wiley, Texas and Lynn (Floy) Rodgers of Moore, Oklahoma as well as several nephews and nieces. Tom and his wife, Terrie, were married at Briarcliff Baptist Church in 1989 and have been members since that time. Tom served as SS Director, Deacon and a member of the Risk Management Team at Briarcliff and was a member of the Closer Walk SS class. Doctor Bill Bigger will officiate at the service at Briarcliff Baptist Church on Thursday, October 2 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur on Wednesday, October 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or to Briarcliff Baptist Church. A.
