Thomas Lee Coffey, age 75 of Peachtree Corners,GA passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Tom was a 1959 graduate of West High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) who enjoyed keeping up with his classmates. He attended the University of Tennessee and Tennessee Wesleyan College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1964 from Tennessee Wesleyan College (now university). While in college he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Tom spent 36 years working for the federal government, first as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service and then as an Investigator with the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration (now Employee Benefits Security Administration) of the Department of Labor. He retired in 2001 and enjoyed retirement immensely. He traveled with his wife Diane around the United States, to Scotland and Alaska. He always loved cars and he enjoyed two different cars during retirement, a Nissan 350Z and his dream car, a Corvette Z06. He was a member of the Z Club and enjoyed rides and other events with his friends in the club. Tom also enjoyed riding motorcycles and he regularly rode with other enthusiasts in the neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Diane Singer Coffey; daughter, Andrea Coffey Stewart and her husband, David; brother, James Leland Coffey and his wife, Sue.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Leland T. Coffey; son, Michael Coffey; and his niece, Sharon Coffey.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at St Luke’s Presbyterian Church, 1978 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or to your favorite charity.
