Thomas M. Witcher

Thomas Miller Witcher, 64, of Gainesville, formerly of Decatur, died December 15, 2010. Tom graduated from Druid Hills High School, the University of Georgia and Georgia Law School. He practiced law in the Atlanta area for over 37 years and was past president of the DeKalb Bar Association, former chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and on the board of the ACLU. In addition to practicing law, Tom was an avid astronomer and an accomplished stand-up comedian, having performed at clubs including the Punchline and Eddie's Attic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Greer Witcher and is survived by his brother, Bill Witcher; sister -in-law, Jean Witcher; nephews, Brad and Chris Witcher; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and loyal friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, officiated by Rev. Caleb Clarke. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 am preceding the service. A. S. Turner & Sons.
