Thomas Oden Jewell

Thomas O. Jewell, Jr. passed away on August 2, 2013. He was born in Chattanooga, TN on April 4, 1925. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, then enlisted in the navy to fight in WWII at the age of 17. After the war, he went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee, and married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine McEntire in 1945. He spent his entire working career with Container Corporation of America, in Chattanooga, TN, Greensboro, NC, and retired in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an active member of the Lions Club and of the Masonic Lodge. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine, in 1998. He then married Mary Lou Brown of Atlanta, and they were married for 14 years. He was a member of, and active in, Oak Grove United Methodist Church for many years, belonging to the Graydon, then the Seekers Sunday School class. While living in Ormond Beach, Florida for a few years, he and Lou were members of First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach where he was a Stephen Minister. He was a beloved father, and grandfather, known as Pops. He is survived by his loving wife, Lou Brown Jewell, and his children, Janet Jewell Woodward (husband Bill) and Cathy Jewell Whitney (husband Don), and his grandchildren Brian and Kevin Whitney. A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia at 2:00 pm on August 10, 2013. A reception will immediately follow in the parlor. The family has planned a private burial prior to the memorial service at Arlington Memorial Park, Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Presbyterian Village, 2000 EW Connector, Attn: Caring Hands, Austell, GA 30106, or to Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
