Thomas Patrick Moran

January 15, 1929 — June 27, 2015

Thomas Patrick Moran, 86, of Norcross, Georgia, died Saturday, June 27th, 2015.
He was born to the late John and Cecilia Moran, January 15, 1929, in Mohill, County Leitrim, Ireland. The 7th of 8 children, Tom was born into a rural Irish farming family. In his early twenties, after graduating from technical college in Ireland, he lived and worked in Birmingham, England. Following his immigration to Australia in 1960, he married the late Diana Anne Holmes in 1964. They lived in Sydney, Australia before immigrating to America in 1976, settling in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tom was a carpenter all his life, (taking a few eager journeymen under his wings) until he retired in the late 1990's. He was equally passionate about Irish Gaelic football (he played in Ireland with his brother, Frank, in their youth) and soccer (playing from boyhood until middle age). He coached boys soccer teams in Atlanta for many years, and enthusiastically followed professional leagues until his passing. He founded a dramatic society in his hometown and held a life-long passion for the arts. In his youth, he was a boxer and continued to love that sport his whole life. A great fisherman, Tom revered salmon fishing most of all, especially when he was joined by his brother Frank, on the west coast of Ireland.
Tom was an active member of St.Patrick's Catholic Church in Norcross, Georgia. As part of his civic and religious life, he was a long time member and 4th degree knight of the Knights of Columbus, Atlanta Council 660. Tom joined the Hibernian Benevolent Society in 1976, serving as President, and was an active member for over 35 years. He loved to travel and took countless trips around the US and overseas, including returning home to Ireland every few years.
Tom is survived by his loving family: His two children, Sally-Anne M Hansen and Sean P Moran, both of Atlanta, Georgia; his two grandchildren, Dylan T Hansen of Abilene, Texas and Elsa M Hansen, of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother, Frank Moran, of Galway, Ireland; his dear companion, Jean Clark, of Grayson, Georgia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland, the US and Australia.
