Thomas Wayne Owen

July 30, 1950 — November 8, 2009

Thomas Wayne Owen, or just Wayne, died Sunday, November 8, 2009. Born on July 30, 1950; he was a loving husband, father, brother, and patriot who lived his life on his own terms. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Owen; and his daughters, Nicole Hope Owen King and Micaela Elaine Owen; his son-in-law, Frank King; his brother, Billy Owen, and an army of friends. He made no apologies for who he was or what he believed in, regardless of the consequences. Whether it was wearing his overalls to every restaurant in town, despite the chagrin of his daughters, or standing by his brother even when everyone else had long ago abandoned Billy. He loved his wife deeply and would have moved the world for her. He marched to the beat of his own drum, and loved every beat of it. He was proud of himself and his family. He was a lover of good music, good conversation, and good food -anything made by Mike and Barbara Patrick, particularly the treats with tons of sugar and salt. He relished his nick name "mondo cheapo" but was often the first to put down his money for friends and family when they were in need or just in need of a good friend. He lived his life to the fullest. Swinging on vines out on the Red Neck Riviera with his buddies or cutting it up on a cruise, he knew what was truly important in life. A lover of all animals -particularly his Great White Hunter, Polly, Killer, and Heather- and he would collect strays from just about anywhere. He taught his daughters how important it was to care for all living things, but also how to let them go when it was time. An adventurer at heart, he traveled throughout Europe, but knew he was a Georgia boy through and through. Though his mother has long been in Heaven waiting for him, she knew that no son could have loved his mother more than Wayne loved her, and she is thrilled to be with him now. We will miss the conversations, the angry white-man-hate-talk radio shows, the Fox News love affair, the reckless abandonment for following the rules of driving, the endless stubborn streak, the hugs, the ridiculously embarrassing nick names, the way he said, "I love you Pal," his Christmas smiles, and all the things that made him him, but we will not miss the overalls; well maybe even the overalls. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 11th at 2 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the

American Cancer Society , 250 Williams St., Atlanta, GA 30303. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 10th at A. S. Turner & Sons.
