Thomas Wayne "Tommy" Sammons, 61, of Covington, died August 1, 2013. Tommy was raised in the Covington Hwy. area of Decatur. He was a graduate of Towers High School in DeKalb County, and soon under the guidance of stained glass artist Frankie Llordns in his Avondale Estates studio. Tommy opened his own business, A Cut Above Stained Glass, and became a master artist himself. His business flourished as he crafted stained glass for many prominent Atlantans and others across America. Also, his art made its way to many companies that used his talent for logos and trademarks, in addition to fabricating new work and repairs for hundreds of churches in our country. Tommy's beautiful stained glass was used on many sets for the movie industry and star's homes in Hollywood. Tommy is survived by his son, Duane Sammons; sisters, Martha Tuten and family and Linda S. Johnston; nephews, Richard Johnston and Cain Sammons. His memorial services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, August 10th at A. S. Turner and Sons, with Rev. Ralph Easterwood officiating. The family will receive friends 11:30 am to 1 pm before and after the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
