Tommie Elizabeth Mckinney

Mrs. Tommie Elizabeth Hudson McFarland Hardin McKinney, age 95 , passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2013. Tommie, the fourth of Mary and Guy Hudson's nine children, was a graduate of Decatur Girls High in 1936. She served as a lifelong member of the Decatur United Methodist Church. She was a member and President of the Paty Sunday School Class, lifetime member of the United Methodist Women, and served on the staff as the Church Hostess. She was a member of the Baron DeKalb Chapter of the National Society of Daughter of the American Revolution for 73 years. Tommie was the first PTA President of the former Westchester Elementary School in the Decatur City Schools. Her gifts of cooking and gardening were used as expressions of her love for family and friends. As hostess, her home was always open for comfort, with kindness and a warm heart. As hostess at Decatur First United Methodist she served hundreds with warm yeast rolls, tender help in grief and joy, and loving-service to many. Tommie was predeceased by her husbands: Martin McFarland, Lewis Sage Hardin, Jr., and Charles D. McKinney, Jr., and her youngest grandson, Arthur Sage Kugel. She is survived by her sister and husband, Louise and Jimmy Harris of Alto, Georgia; and, her children: daughter and husband, Pam and Bill Kugel of Richmond, Virginia; son and wife, Nat and Betty McFarland of Decatur, Georgia; stepdaughter and husband, Peggy and Robert Youngblood of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and stepson and wife, Dan and Mary McKinney of Anderson, South Carolina. She is survived by grandsons: Tony McFarland and wife, Donna, of Middleburg, Florida, and Will Kugel and wife, Karen, of Richmond, Virginia; and, four step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Youngblood of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Robert Youngblood, Jr. and wife, Jill, of Lilburn, Georgia; Erin and husband, Russell Hinson of Greenville, South Carolina; Scott McKinney of Anderson, South Carolina. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur First United Church, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 1 pm in the chapel of at A. S. Turner and Sons. The family will have visitation on Friday, December 20th from 6 to 8 pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
