Toula S. Kontoes, born February 12, 1931, died Monday, January 2, 2012 .Toula came to Atlanta in 1955 and, until she became ill, was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Philoptochos Society. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Spyros Kontoes; children, Phia and John Griggs, Pete and Dee Dee Kontoes and Mike and Anna Kontoes; grandchildren, Kike, Arielle, Spyros M., Spyros P., Mary and Robert, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by her sister, Theodora Kouloukakos of Athens, Greece and Voula Costarides of Atlanta; brother, Georgos Michaleas of Athens, Greece; several beloved nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held 1PM, Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the Greek Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Rd, Atlanta GA 30329. Father Paul Kaplanis and Father Christos Mars will officiate and burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Spyros M. Kontoes, Spyros P. Kontoes and Robert Griggs, and her nephew, Anastasios Costarides and friends, Victor Economy and Taso D. Costarides. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at A. S. Turner & Sons.
