Troy Weyman Drummond, Sr., 83, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009, at his Jackson Lake home. Born September 13, 1926 in Bethlehem, GA, he was the son of George Washington Drummond, Sr., and Beulah Everett Drummond. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Aikens Drummond, son Wayne Drummond and wife Nancy Fletcher, daughter Louise Drummond Harwell and husband Nat, all of Covington, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren Francie Dorich and husband David of Greensboro, NC, Christie Harwell of Atlanta, GA, Davis Harwell of Alpharetta, GA, Emma and Sarah Drummond of Covington, GA; one great-grandchild, Claire Elizabeth Dorich of Greensboro, NC, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Troy Drummond enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II in USS Pamina, and was present in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese surrender ceremony. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946, Troy served for 31 years with Southern Railroad in Atlanta. For many years he successfully managed baseball teams in the DeKalb Memorial Athletic Association, taking his Babe Ruth team to the 1963 World Series in Farmington, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Troy's two dogs, Precious and Perdita, to the Newton County Animal Shelter, 210 Lower River Road, Covington, GA 30016. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, September 30, at Melwood Cemetery, 5170 E Ponce de Leon Avenue, Stone Mountain, GA 30083. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening, September 29 from 7-9pm at A. S. Turner & Sons.
