Valerie Elaine Purcell

October 20, 1957 — December 5, 2020

Valerie Elaine Purcell was born on October 20, 1957, a beautiful fall day in Decatur, Georgia, to William L. (Bill)Purcell and Elsie Riley Purcell. She went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2020 after a valiant struggle with lung cancer and Covid 19.

Graduating from Cedar Grove High School, Valerie began a forty-five-year career as lead dental assistant for Dr. James A. Granade, Jr., her uncle, and she continued with Dr. James A. Granade III and Dr. Garrett Sanders of LaVista Dentistry. Her empathy for patients was unsurpassed. The tenderness and love she showed for friends and family was amazing. Valerie had great faith in the Lord giving her courage and determination. Her fierce loyalty was legendary. Valerie loved both the mountains and the seashore. Hummingbirds and butterflies were her charms. The memory of her quiet, dry wit will be cherished by all who laughed with her.

Valerie is survived by her parents, her brother, Jeffry Alan Purcell, and her sister, Melanie Purcell (Ron Spain) as well as nephews Joel Purcell and Christopher Purcell. Also surviving are her aunt and uncle, Dr. Jim and Janet Granade and cousins, Dr. James A. Granade III and Jonathan R. Granade and his wife Samantha.
Sheena, the Wonder Dog, a beloved rescue pet, also survives.

Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a memorial service will be announced later. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
