L'ABATE, Bess (Vasiliki) Mrs. Bess Lukas L'Abate, age 86, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on March 11, 2012. A member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, Mrs. L'Abate was born in Indiana Harbor, Indiana on February 10, 1926. She graduated from Indiana University and received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Atlanta University, working with her husband as a family counselor, editing his early books and articles, and traveling around the world with him giving workshops. Mrs. L'Abate – who took pride in her rich Greek heritage - loved opera, gardening, traveling, cooking, fireworks, entertaining and decorating her home, and generously shared her talents with her beloved family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Luciano L'Abate; son, John W. L'Abate and wife Melissa; daughter, Elizabeth Leila L'Abate; sister, Constance Lukas; grandchildren, Alessandra L'Abate and Ian L'Abate – all of Atlanta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Alberto and Anna Luisa of Florence, Italy; goddaughter, Lexi Pangere; godson, Tony Rozzos. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with The Reverend Father Christos Mars officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, March 16, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, with a prayer service at 6:00 pm. A. S.
