Velma Allen Jenkins

Velma Allen Jenkins passed away October 5, 2011 after an extended illness. She was born January 4, 1934, and raised in Sautee-Nachoochee Valley, Georgia. After completing high school, Velma earned her diploma in nursing from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. In 1970 she graduated Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Anesthesia. After scoring highest on the national board of certification, she worked at the V.A. Hospital as a CRNA until her retirement in 1995.Velma is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cona Allen, her sisters, Cynthia McPherson, Inez Talent, and Ruth Holcomb. She is survived by her husband Charles Jenkins, her sister Frankie Allen, her son Gary Gettis and his wife, Margaret; her daughter Joy Hutto and her husband Mike. In addition she is survived by her five granddaughters, Misty Costello (Michael), Katie Edwards (Andy), Meghan Pate (Andy), Caroline Huffaker (Clay), and Abby and two great-grandchildren, Austin Gary, and Avi-Kate. The family will receive friends Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Winn Way, Decatur, GA. Funeral services will be held at Peachtree Baptist Church on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. and later at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel, 118 North Brooks Street, Cleveland, GA 30528 at 3:00 p.m. Interment follows at Old Nachoochee Missionary Baptist Church.
