Vera Rabun Culbreath

Vera Rabun Culbreath, 93, of Decatur, Georgia, died peacefully October 25, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Franklin and Dessie Stapleton Rabun, sisters Mary Beulah R. Johnson, Lorena R. Meeks, Ethel R. Land, Bernice R. Bartlett, brothers Clinton Robert Rabun, Walter Lewis Rabun, Romie Jack Rabun, Jimmy Ray Rabun, Roy Rabun, her devoted husband Harold Griffith Culbreath, Sr., and precious baby daughter Vera Diane. She is survived by sons Harold G. (Harry) Culbreath, Jr., Rabun Hall Culbreath and wife Laura, John William Culbreath and wife Rosie, sisters-in-law, Sara Rabun and Mary Culbreath, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Glascock County, Georgia, she moved to Decatur and was married to Harold from 1941 until his death in 2007. She served as secretary to pastors and churches, first at Gordon Street Baptist Church, then, for 35 years, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, retiring in 1984. She was a longtime member of the Florence J. Dunstan Bible Class. She will always be remembered as a gracious southern lady who would light up a room with her beautiful smile and kind, gentle spirit. Loved by all who knew her, she was devoted to God, her family and her friends. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 27, from 4pm to 6pm at A. S. Turners & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA. A celebration of her life will be held at The First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA 30030 on Sunday at 2pm with Rev. Julie Pennington-Russell and Dr. Peter Rhea Jones officiating. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery on Monday at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
