Vereen Alexander, of Atlanta, Ga. passed away on August 6, 2013. Born in Atlanta on September 18, 1942, she was a Major in the Georgia State Defense Force at the time of her passing. She loved reading, attending classes and continuously learning new things. A extensive traveler, she completed a trip around the world in 1986 that included visits to France, the Soviet Union, India, the Philippines, Japan, China, Canada and other destinations. She subsequently traveled to Egypt and Syria in 1997. She received her undergraduate degree from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College of Tulane University and her Masters of Business Administration from Georgia State University. MAJ. Alexander was also a graduate of the Marine Corps Institute, where she studied expeditionary warfare. Survivors include her son, William Walker Alexander, III (Jennifer) of Marietta, Ga. Brothers Thomas B. Daniel of Atlanta, Ga. and Donald G. Daniel (Martina), of Winchester, Mass. A sister, Flora Daniel (John) of Savannah, Ga. as well as a nephew, niece, and two great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain William Walker Alexander, Jr., USAF, and her parents, Lieutenant Commander Jessie Thomas Daniel, Jr., USN, and Alexandria Bell Daniel of Thomasville, Ga. A memorial service will take place at A. S. Turner and Sons (2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033) at 11a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
