Mrs. Verna H. Chambers, 88, of Decatur, died on May 29, 2009. She is survived by son Mr. and Mrs. James Chambers, Tucker; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Janis) Kiker, McDonough, Mr. and Mrs. John (Jean) Frazier, Portland, Maine, and Dr. and Mrs. Andrew (Susan) Harper, Conyers; and her sister Doris Bizzell, Avondale Estates. Mrs. Chambers is also survived by five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband John E. Chambers. Mrs. Chambers was born on February 18, 1921 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Decatur. A true mother's heart beat in the life of Verna Chambers for more than 88 years. Her love was well known to anyone who came her way. She never grew weary of giving and sharing her love. On May 29th, God reached across time to ease her broken body and welcome His child home. Although the loss weighs heavy upon our hearts now, we celebrate her wonderful life and hold fast to the promise of that glorious reunion day. We will miss you, Mama. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 56566, Atlanta, GA 30343. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
