Virginia Carrico Smith, age 92, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 5, 2013. Known to family and friends as "Jinny", she was born July 15, 1920 in Wise, Virginia. Her husband, Charles John Smith, and her parents, Everett Cleveland Carrico and Myrtle Evans Carrico, preceded Jinny in death. A loving wife and mother, Jinny was a sixty-year member of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church and an active neighbor in the Heritage Square area of DeKalb County from 1960 until moving to Clairmont Place Senior Living in 2009. Survivors include her son, Charles John Smith, Jr. and wife, Marion Godwin; son, James Carrico Smith; granddaughter, Lesley Smith Bartlett and husband, John Lawton Bartlett; great-granddaughters, Lily Lark Bartlett and Sasha Belle Bartlett; great-grandson, Vincent Lawton Bartlett; and sister, Mary Belle Jessee. In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers, Everett Cleveland Carrico, Jr. and Henry Gilmer Carrico, and sisters, Sue Carrico Fox Fink and Nell Carrico Donovan preceded Jinny in death. A funeral service will be held at A. S. Turner and Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd, Decatur at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. A private graveside service will follow the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, 2532 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033 or another charity of your choice.
