Virginia Hobgood

October 26, 1942 — December 9, 2024

Virginia (Ginny) Crowe Hobgood, 82, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024.

She is survived by her daughter, Ginna; son, Hal and his wife Amy; and grandsons Harry and Jack. She is also survived by her aunt, Carol Culverhouse, sister-in-law, Carolyn Wheeler and brother-in-law, Larry Hobgood (Marilyn), all of Cartersville, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold W. Hobgood and her parents James (Red) Madison Crowe and Virginia Lee Holden. Ginny grew up in Cartersville, GA, where as a girl, she was quite the tom-boy who could outrun all the boys on Douglas Street where she lived with her parents. But she was also comfortable and confident in beautiful dresses, many of which her mother sewed for her. She spent many days at Mama and Papa Holden's home and with her dad's parents, Preacher Crowe and Mama Crowe. She was a majorette at Cartersville High School and also a member of the Homecoming Court.

After graduation, she attended Shorter Baptist College in Rome, GA. She later married Harold Hobgood (also from Cartersville). After Harold graduated from UGA, they eventually settled in the Atlanta area, first in Tucker and then in Stone Mountain. Ginny enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her two children, Ginna and Hal. At one point she became a paraprofessional at a local school, helping in a first-grade classroom.

She was a truly compassionate person, always caring for children, animals, and especially the elderly. Ginny truly enjoyed taking care of her own mother in her old age. She always took up for the "underdog" or people she felt had been slighted in this life.

In the early 1990's, Ginny and Harold designed and built their home in Alpharetta, where they both lived until they passed away. They became members of Perimeter Church and enjoyed spending their golden years with grandsons Harry and Jack.

Ginny was a wonderful family woman with a strong Christian faith. We take comfort knowing that she was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus, loved ones who passed before her and her beloved dog, Luke. She will be missed by many, but is renewed in Heaven.

A celebration of life will be planned and announced after the holidays.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perimeter Church (PCA), 9500 Medlock Bridge Road, Johns Creek, GA 30097.
