Virginia Jones Johnston, 92, of Atlanta, died September 10, 2007. She was born May 27, 1915 in Enterprise, Alabama, to Rev. Thomas Glenn Jones and Laura Carr Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gillis Johnston; two brothers; and a granddaughter, Laura McDaniel Gardner. She is survived by a sister, Jane Sentell of Little Rock, AR. Mrs. Johnston was a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Jack Nichols Sunday School Class. She also participated in the Hand Bell Choir, volunteered with several special church groups, including the Nancy Wolfe Circle, Seniors Are Special , and the Martha Circle at Wesley Woods.. Mrs. Johnston worked in banking for over 30 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and participation in the Elder Hostel Program. She was known as a gracious and loving person who had a quiet way of helping and comforting others. Mrs. Johnston is survived by her children and their spouses: Joan and husband Dr. Henry Diversi of Atlanta; Don Johnston and his wife Ferdie of Eufaula, AL; Betty and her husband Robert McDaniel of Valparaiso, FL; Dr. Virginia J. Stanley of Loris, SC; and Jonnie Johnston of Atlanta. Grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Diversi Thompson, Virginia Lynn Stuart, Mary Carr Hanks, Angela Bruce Johnston, Rebecca J. Ryland, David N. Johnston, Bob McDaniel, Stacy Stanley, and Thomas Stanley; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 12, at Embry Hills UMC with Dr. William Mallard and Rev. Mark Sargent officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. The graveside service will be held 11 AM (CT), Thursday, September 13, at Lakeview Cemetery in Brundidge, Alabama, with the family receiving friends 10 AM to 10:45 AM (CT), in the Virginia Johnston room at Brundidge United Methodist Church. Pallbearers are grandsons and grandson by marriage, J. R. Hanks, David Johnston, Bob McDaniel, Stacy Stanley, Thomas Stanley, Dr. Doug Stuart, and Tommy Thompson.
