Lu Trump, 91, resident of Decatur and active member of the Emory community died Tues., Jan.19th at Hospice Atlanta. From 1959 to 1965 Lu was a nurse at Emory University’s Student Infirmary while her husband, Guy W. Trump, served as Dean of Emory’s School of Business. Born in 1918 in Dayton, OH to Clifford and Rose Stillwaugh, she became a Registered Nurse in 1939, and began a career that spanned more than 30 years. Later on, while in her mid-fifties, Lu returned to college to earn a degree and appraisal certification in American art and antiques. With characteristic energy and determination she embarked on a new career in 1985, selling antiques and collectibles at Kudzu Antique Market. Lu was a tireless and enthusiastic volunteer. Her efforts included service to Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish, Egleston Children’s Hospital, Fernbank Science Center, Emory Friends of Music, Elderhostel, the Atlanta Symphony Associates, and the Freedom Force exchange to Russian Georgia. In 2004 she was granted the Emory University Woman’s Club Achievement Award in recognition of her service to the Club, the University and the community. They described her as “Youthful in outlook and energy; an indomitable friend and cheerful inspiration.” A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved to entertain and was known for her optimism, faith and a keen sense of humor. She was also an avid bridge player, accomplished seamstress, and world traveler. Preceded in death by her husband Guy, daughter Kris, and sister Jane, she is survived by daughters Ginny and Kathy, grandsons Matthew, Peter and John, as well as nieces, nephews and their many children and grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to Holy Trinity Parish or the American Lung Association. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 25 at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Parish, 515 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
