VIRGINIA L. TRUMP
Ginny Trump, 65, resident of Decatur and former general manager of the Houston Mill House, died Monday, Sept. 13th. Ginny was one of the earliest female graduates of Emorys School of Business, where she earned a BBA degree in 1967. She also held an MS in Taxation and the CPA professional designation.
A successful executive and entrepreneur, her accounting career began with Arthur Anderson & Co. in Atlanta. She later taught Accounting at both Emory and C. W. Post College. She served on the National Board of Directors of the Girls Clubs of America and the National Child Labor Committee Board of Trustees.
In 1977 she joined Avon Products, Inc. where, in 1983, she was named Director of Internal Audit. The next year she was elected Vice President of Avon International, responsible for worldwide auditing functions. At the time, there were very few female corporate officers in her field. In recognition of her accomplishments, Ginny was named to the Academy of Women Achievers by the New York YWCA in 1985.
In the mid 1990s Ginny returned to Atlanta to help care for her mother, a move that also reunited her with many friends in the Emory community. An enthusiastic world traveler, she delighted in taking her mother to exotic destinations including China, Singapore, the Philippines, Alaska, the Caribbean and South America.
Passionate in all her hobbies and pursuits, she loved animals, collected art and antiques, enjoyed watercolor painting, jewelry design and was a formidable bridge player. She was genuinely devoted to her family and many special friends.
Preceded in death by her father Guy, her mother Lu, and her sister Kris, she is survived by her sister Kathy, nephews Matthew, Peter and John, and many cousins.
While poor health forced Ginny into early retirement, a lung transplant in Jan. 2009 renewed her optimism and restored her to an active lifestyle. She and her family would be honored by organ donor pledges made in her memory. Other memorial gifts may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, the Georgia Transplant Foundation or the American Lung Association.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 17 at 2:00pm at Holy Trinity Parish, 515 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30033.
