BOLAND, Virginia
Virginia Nell Smith Boland, age 93 of Atlanta, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011. She was born and raised in Ocilla, GA, attended Andrew College in Cuthbert and graduated from GA State University. She retired from the state of GA after working for many years as a social worker. Virginia greatly enjoyed the company of her friends at King's Bridge Retirement Center. She was very active at Glenn Memorial UMC, where she and her husband were members for over 60 years. She loved to line and square dance and, until recently, was still teaching line dancing. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Boland; parents, J. Colin and Mamie Smith; sister, Mary Brown; and great grandson, Bretton Lamar Knight. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Boland; sisters, Ruth Smith and Elizabeth Stalvey; grandson, Henry (Chet) Knight, IV; nephews, Gary Stalvey and Billy Stalvey; and many friends and extended family. Memorial services will be held in the Little Chapel at Glenn Memorial UMC on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The Judson Ward Sunday School Class at Glenn Memorial will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glenn Memorial UMC or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 5 to 8 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur.
