Virginia Vickery Jory, Phd.

Virginia Vickery Jory, PhD. 84, passed away on November 4, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Douglas Jory Sr., in 1998. She is survived by her daughter Victoria Jory LeCroy (husband John), son Philip Douglas Jory, Jr. (wife Ginger), grandchildren Michelle Novotni (husband Duane), Andrew LeCroy, Katherine Jory, Sarah Jory, and great-grandson Austin Novotni. She was born in Union City Georgia, was the valediction of Bass High School, and attended Agnes Scott College. She was also a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned a Bachelor's, Master's, and was the first female to earn a PhD in Mathematics. She worked as a statistician on the Speedy Trials Act for Federal Courts, as a Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, and was later employed at Scientific Atlanta. She was proud that both of her children and all four of her grandchildren attended Georgia Tech. She dearly loved her family and friends. She was a lifelong learner, continuing to take OLLI classes throughout her retirement and was an active book club member. She loved to experience different cultures through travel and instilled that love in her children and grandchildren. In retirement she fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Cuba. She spent countless hours volunteering in her community working with the visually impaired, chairing committees while working at Georgia Tech, and was the President of Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 on Thursday, November 8, 2018. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of AS Turner and Sons on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs.
